After spending several rounds casting every buff spell they could think of, the party went back to confront the guardian. He refused to negotiate. Brad, Tony and Greg charged in for the attack. He died very soon after. They recovered his dancing +3 two bladed sword and his chainshirt +3. Using the three available icons, they activated the gate and went through. The rest of the refugees followed them.
